Absolutely amazing. Not only is it emotionally raw

"This is the hardest part/ the way a fish is still a fish/ even after she's been gutted"

I have waited for Brenna's first collection since the first time I saw her do "Fantastic Breasts and Where To Find Them" (which is in this collection, by the way). This was well worth the wait. Absolutely amazing. Not only is it emotionally raw, but it covers multiple topics.

I have read a lot of poetry collections lately where each poem has no more than maybe 15 words, like suddenly the writers have become afraid of words. Brenna is a definite exception to that modern rule. Which I appreciate even more about her.

Read it. You won't be sorry.

Brenna's poetry is life-changing. It's about reading something that you didn't know anyone else could have ever felt. You see the words on paper and they speak to your soul so accurately that think you must have blacked out, found talent and wrote them yourself. I didn't like poetry before this...but now I just want to hear more.

About the Author
Lawrence Snyder is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. He received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and has devoted most of his career to parallel computation research, including architecture, algorithms and languages. With Calvin Lin and UW graduate students, he developed the ZPL parallel programming language. He is a fellow of the ACM and IEEE. He is an ardent traveler, enthusiastic theater-goer and occasional skier.

Calvin Lin is an Associate Professor of Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as Director of the Turing Scholars Honors Program of undergraduate CS majors. He received his PhD from the University of Washington under the supervision of Lawrence Snyder.� His current research interests include compilers and micro-architecture. In his spare time, he is an avid ultimate Frisbee player and coach of UT’s Men’s Ultimate Frisbee team.

Excellent textbook on chaos!

Although this text lacks the brightly-colored fractals of many other works, the coverage it gives to the mathematics end of things more than makes up for it. It deals very well with the concepts of statistics and dynamic equations that are necessary for the understanding of chaos, presuming very little in the way of mathematical knowledge on the part of the reader. All definitions are clearly delineated, and the answers to the exercises are provided in the back.

This is one of those excellent textbooks that did not reach the level of popularity that
it deserves. The book is very well written. The layout of text/equations is handsome.
The examples are very interesting (gamblers ruin, finance, population dynamics, Markov chains...)
The book is not glitzy like a JC Penny Christmas catalog but looks and feels like a math book.
Overall a very wise investment for the autodidact or student !
