Experience plus knowledge plus time equals wisdom. This book cuts to the bone that YOU are responsible for profits or losses, not the market. Gives the professionals money management thinking of first, not losing money vs the novice who only thinks of making money. It cuts through the hype of get-rich-quick techniques and market letters. Clear, logical, unemotional personal psychology, plus money management stratergies of risk/reward make this book one of the most valuable for novice or experienced investors. Investment wisdom rarely found. Buy and read this book. The advice is a bargain.

Trading offers remarkable rewards and attracts many new entrants every year. Most rookie traders are sure that there is a relatively easy route to the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow. Veteran trader John Hayden, who has traded stocks, gold and U.S. Treasuries since 1976, disabuses his readers of any such notions; there is no way to short-cut the system. The book is divided into two sections: The first offers a sort of trader's self-improvement manual and concentrates on developing the attitudes needed to be a successful trader. As in many books within the personal growth oeuvre, this advice often consists of reiterating the glaringly obvious in condescending fashion. The second half is the more technical, and will be of more interest to the novice or intermediate-level trader, to whom we [...] recommend this book for its original observations and conclusions.

Great book on the most important element...the self

...as any trader knows, your state of mind is both your best friend and your worst enemy when moving, making and losing money in the market. I was very impressed with his almost "zen-like" perspective on the market.
...this is a solid work for the experienced or the beginner.
As I read it, my trading improved quite a bit. I had a 30% jump in just a few weeks...coincidence? It gave me perspective, as I contemplated this process. Life and the way of success is always more than charts, numbers and a bunch of egos. How you prevent the traps of "chasing" or holding long because you "absolutely know you must be right", he covers this area well. Moreover, it is well written.
I'd give it a 4.5 stars, but cannot...so instead I'll give it a 4 (with that footnote).

The previous reviewer is getting boring

As I search for texts for learning geostatistics, this gentleman's standard rant appears everywhere, copied verbatim, as welcome as a stubborn pop-up ad. He seldom discusses the specifics of the book in question, rather, he just dismisses the whole field. Well as long as we're at that level, I'd remind him Kurt Godel showed that it is impossible using usual methods to be certain that the axioms of arithmetic will not lead to contradictions. So I guess we should can anything based on arithmetic. I wonder if he also haunts the theology book review pages touting the lack of empircal proof for god's existence? It would be better to post one's intellectual grudges elsewhere.

Something of a disappointment

The Putnam Aeronautical Books series contains many volumes, of which I own several. This seems the least helpful of any. The other two titles in the "... Aircraft since 19XX " series that I own are on Shorts and Supermarine. The shortcomings of this voume on Hawker are as follows:

1. There is little understanding of who contributed what at Hawker other than Sidney Camm and some test pilots although clearly some very talented folks worked there. See for expample the book "Sidney Camm and the Hurricane" Airlife, 1991 which makes this abundently clear.

2. Unlike in the volume on Supermarine, there is little coverage on projects that were not built but showed where the thinking of the company was directed. The very short section at the rear with a tantalizing list and a few plans is no substitute for including this in the flow of the narrative.

3. No fault of the author, this book was published in 1961. The P1127 had just flown, so little or nothing of the Harrier and Hawk stories is told and some of the description of the Hunter work may well have been obscured by security concerns of the day.

4. The description of the aircraft is just that, descriptive, with no attempt to explain and contextualize the technology involved. The change from tube frame to stressed skin fusalage construction must have been significant to the entire Hawker organization, but it is just described. In fact, from the description of Typhoon development it is clear that Hawker had structural problems (in-flight failures) with their first monocoque but this is never dealt with as such.

All in all, this book is worth buying at discounted used prices, or in order to complete a collection but really does not help us understand what Hawker really contributed to 20th century aeronautical development.

Hawker history told by an insider

This book tells you everything you might need to know about the venerable English firm that grew out of the W.W. One Sopwith firm. the author was given unprecidented access to company files in the preparation of this groundbreaking book.
This was the first of the Putnam series (in its first edition) and set the style for the successful series. Unlike the books that followed, this book has a rather extensive 98 page overview of the firm's history (many of the others in the series have 10 or 15 pages of history before addressing the specific aircraft types).

Helpfully, the 1990 edition book has been updated from its first edition to include later variants of the Harrier and Hawk jets.

Another winner from the famed Putnam series.

A great prep tool!

This has been a big help for me getting ready for my instrument check ride. I'm enrolled in a part 141 training program, so I have stage checks (like check rides, there is a flight, oral, and written exam). So far this has helped me out quite a bit on my stage checks and I've passed the first two with no stress.

To be clear, this isn't a book that you should use as your only source to prepare for an exam. This is really helpful as a type of guide that you can read through to identify gaps in your knowledge. Each question has an answer paragraph or two that gives an example of a good response. If you read a question and you're sure that you know the answer, move on the the next one. If you read a question and you don't feel like you know the answer, take a look at the answer portion. If the answer is unfamiliar to you then you've got a good indication of what you need to brush up on. Using the book this way has helped me out to understand my deficient areas and know where I need spend more time studying.

Has almost everything you need, but it can never be 100% complete, and some ares have more information than what you may need as well. Just go online and search for IFR flashcards, there are many cram websites to help you learn the MNEMONICS such as GRABCARD, TOMATOFLAMES, RAWFAT, FLAPS, SHARPT, etc, and you will be fine.

You will be well prepped for the oral, mine at least was very easy, and my particular examiner had this same book on his desk which he was happy to see that I has read. The good thing is everything is referenced, and there are questions at the end of each chapter which you need to go look up yourself, you are expected to know them. After you're done, do a quick ground questionnaire with your instructor and have him sign you off.

This worked well on my desktop and on my tablet on the go with the kindle app.

I felt that some of the questions were a bit too obscure for the instrument oral. Most questions were very helpful. It is nice to have the answers right there along with a source to locate more information about the topic!

Sawyer Beckett is one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. I didn't realize just how much I missed his character until I started reading this; and just like that, I'm back in the world of the "Crew."

This is a funny, sweet and so true short story of exactly how I think Sawyer would be if some guy decided to date his princess. I even read parts of this out loud to my husband who found it just as entertaining as I did. After all, Daddy's love their little girls.

If you haven't read the Evolve series yet, you are seriously missing out. Each story is really good and all of the characters are memorable. They each have a different personality and their friendships and relationships are believable and feel real. Thanks SEH for the gifting us with more Sawyer.

I Loved Everything About This Book

This book deserves every bit of the five pink cupcakes that it has received! I saw the cover of this book and immediately knew that the story behind it would be unmistakably charming; I was right! This story follows Abby Benson, whose Aunt Grace has just passed away and in her will has left Abby with enough money to achieve her biggest dream; own a wedding cake shop. When faced with one of the grandest decisions of her life Abby is hesitant and speechless, but with the persuasion and help of her family she decides to make her dream a reality.

There was honestly not one single aspect of this book that I did not love entirely. From the characters, the setting, the cakes, and the romance, I was pleased with all of it. Abby Benson was a phenomenal character and I loved her from the very first page, mainly because I found it extremely easy to connect with her. She was a very precise and on point kind of person. She had lists, lists, and more lists and this is pretty much how I survive every day. But seeing her in her bakery for the first time was when I really connected with her. She was just so passionate about what she loved to do. When she started preparing and talking about her creations it was like her character just lifted right off the page. It is wonderful to see a character in their favorite environment and it is so easy to love Miss Abby Benson and her beautiful wedding cakes.

What I loved most about this story was how the title tied in with the plot. When Abby first opens her bakery she realizes that she is going to have to set her prices. Only she comes up with a better idea. She decides that she will allow her customers to set their own prices. Yes, you heard me. She will bake a cake, leave an invoice, and then they can pay her however much they believe their cake was worth. Abby knows that she will not always receive the payments that she probably deserves, but it is a risk that she is willing to take. Not only does this title, For What It's Worth, apply to Abby's wedding cakes, but it also applies to other areas of her life as she finds love and learns to love in return. The whole entire story was perfectly tied in by the end.

Dane was Abby's love interest in this book and he first started as her handyman. Their relationship was like the buttercream on Abby's cakes: soft, creamy, and delectable. I loved how patient and gentle he was with Abby and he completely supported her business endeavors. Their relationship started slow and easy and eventually picked up as the story progressed. It was really great to see their relationship grow alongside of Abby's new business as well!

A cute little side note: at the start of each new chapter is an awesome recipe from Abby's collection! I love tiny details like this one.

Delightful Washington State Read

I am so pleased to give this book a five-star rating. It is a romance, but it is oh so much more than that. The positives for this book go on and on. I wasn't sure when I began if this would get that coveted rating--there is some sappiness to the romance--but I can fully recommend this book with no reservations.

First of all, it takes place in Washington state. What a delight to read about Mercer Island, Bainbridge Island, Mt. Si, Bellevue, Ocean Shores, North Bend, and more. Oh, also, Victoria, B.C. I am amazed at how many books use the great Pacific Northwest as a setting, and this one is just beautiful!

There was so much to love in this book. No sex, no violence, no profanity. It is an LDS book, and I have come to find that these are often the best books out there. And I am not even a Mormon! But the message is uplifting as the characters consider the most important things in life. The romance was mildly sappy at a few minor points, but overall, the romance was nice and sweet. And the romance never monopolized the book. There was plenty more to this book than romance.

I loved the writing style. Every chapter begins with a wonderful recipe that relates to the action of that chapter. Most of the time I saw the correlation, but a few chapters escaped me. It didn't mean I wasn't completely drawn into the recipes. In fact, I told my mom about the technique, and she said this made the book more memorable, and I couldn't agree more. I am definitely ready to make some of these recipes!

I found moments that were light and humorous at times. I found the business practice employed in the book quite intriguing. My mom actually wondered if the book was true, and I only wish it were! I don't want to spoil anything for potential readers, so I'll let you read and find out about the business practice.

This book is one I can recommend to anyone. There is nothing that will cause you, your mother, or your teenager to blush. The story is well-conceived and excellently executed. I honestly cannot think of a thing that would make this book any better!

"Sweet" Read

I just finished "For What It's Worth" and I love love loved it!! I wanted to savor it and read it slower, but I couldn't stop myself from devouring it. I loved the recipes at the beginning of each chapter that fit into the happenings of that chapter, I love the house remodeling into a bakery... it just felt like reading all of those fun little dreams that we have, like, what if someone left me enough money to make my dreams come true? It was so fun to read about that happening to someone. I actually cried a few times, because I felt so invested in Abby's life. I loved the things she learned, and could relate to so much. (I'm not near her level of success, of course, but I've had unexpected success at times that I've had to learn to balance in my life). I loved her business plan... what a fun idea! Every bit of this book is scrumptious and delightful. Read it!

A book for beginners and up.

This is a book for any level of loom bead work. She explains about a lot of things with different types of bead looms and techniques. I am self taught. I simply got a loom and followed the in box directions. I learned the hard way some of the things this book explains. I also learned a better way to do some techniques. There are diagrams and pictures to help with explanations. Most are in color, diagrams are detailed. Patterns present explain best type of loom and techniques to make. This is a book to make bead looming easier to understand and do. I have the Kindle version. This means I can enlarge diagrams for better visualization.

I found this book to be very informative. I especially liked the section on adding decorative edges to bead loomed bracelets and though I am not skilled (at all) with a needle and thread I followed the directions and added a nice edge on to a bracelet I had loomed that I just wasn't quite satisfied with and the edging made the difference. Lots of good ideas to try.

What a great book! I love the way she explains everything. Even if the patterns are not exactly what you want (and why would you just copy things?) she shows you how to make it your own, just the way you want it. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow. So happy that I ordered this on Kindle, so I can take it with me when I travel
